Craftsmanship
Craftsmanship
A beautiful dress is shaped by more than its silhouette. It comes together through pattern preparation, fabric selection, construction, finishing and careful inspection.
At Geranium, our made-to-order approach allows each dress to move through the production stages required by its individual design.
Thoughtful construction. Detailed finishing. Checked before shipment.
Craftsmanship Begins Before Sewing
The appearance of a finished dress is influenced long before the final stitches are completed.
Measurements, proportions, fabric behavior, pattern shape, construction sequence and design details all affect how a dress comes together.
This is especially important for bridal and formalwear, where a structured bodice, layered skirt, train, lace placement or detailed embellishment can require very different production methods from a simple occasion dress.
Its Own Construction.
A minimalist satin gown and an embellished ball gown should not be treated as the same garment.
Our 7-Step Production Process
Depending on the individual design, a Geranium dress may move through the following core stages before shipment.
Inside the Process
Measurement Review
For orders that include personal measurements, the submitted information may be reviewed for consistency before production proceeds. If a measurement appears significantly unusual, we may contact the customer for confirmation before cutting begins.
Pattern Adjustment
The pattern determines the proportions and structure of the dress. Depending on the size and design, adjustments may be required before fabric is prepared for cutting.
Fabric Cutting
Main fabric, lining, tulle, lace and other materials are cut according to the pattern and construction requirements of the design.
Sewing & Construction
Bodice panels, skirts, lining, sleeves and other components are assembled according to the structure of the dress. More complex designs may require additional internal construction or multiple fabric layers.
Hand Beading & Finishing
Where required by the design, lace appliqués, beads, pearls, sequins, crystals or other decorative elements may be positioned and finished after the main dress construction is complete.
Quality Inspection
Before shipment, key sizing, construction and finishing details are checked so that visible issues can be identified before the dress is prepared for delivery.
Pressing & Packaging
After inspection, the dress is pressed or prepared as appropriate for the fabric and design, then carefully packaged for shipment.
the Silhouette.
The inside of a formal dress can be as important as the details visible from the outside.
Built Around the Design
Different silhouettes require different approaches to construction.
A flowing A-line dress may rely on soft layering and movement, while a Princess Ball Gown may require greater skirt volume and a more structured bodice.
Mermaid and Fit & Flare designs require attention to fitted proportions before opening into the lower skirt.
Depending on the design, construction details may include lining, built-in bra cups, boning, corset elements, layered tulle or other internal support.
Different Fabrics Behave Differently
Tulle
Tulle can be layered to create volume, softness or transparency and may require multiple layers depending on the skirt design.
Satin
Satin creates a smooth, more structured surface and requires careful cutting and sewing because reflected light can make construction details more visible.
Chiffon
Lightweight chiffon is valued for movement and softness and is often layered or lined for coverage.
Lace
Lace may be used as a full layer, an overlay or as individual appliqués placed on the bodice, skirt or sleeves.
Organza
Organza provides lightweight structure and volume while maintaining a more translucent appearance.
Embellished Fabrics
Beaded, sequined or glitter fabrics require different handling and finishing from plain woven materials.
Hand-Finished Elements
Some designs depend heavily on decorative details that are added or adjusted after the main garment construction.
Lace Appliqués
Lace motifs may be positioned individually to follow the shape of the bodice, neckline, sleeves or skirt rather than appearing as one uninterrupted fabric layer.
Beading & Pearls
Beads, pearls and crystals may require individual placement and additional finishing to secure decorative elements to the dress.
Sequins & Embroidery
Sequined and embroidered designs often require additional care at seams and edges so decorative areas work with the garment construction.
Detachable Details
Detachable sleeves, overskirts, trains and other convertible elements require both the main dress and attachment points to be prepared for the intended design.
Craftsmanship Varies by Dress
A simple satin bridesmaid dress and a heavily embellished wedding gown do not require the same amount of construction or hand finishing.
Details such as lace placement, multiple tulle layers, corsetry, beading, detachable trains and intricate sleeves can add additional production steps.
This is one reason individual product production times may differ.
Quality Inspection
Production is not complete when the final seam is sewn. Before a dress is prepared for shipment, it moves through a final inspection stage.
Sizing & Proportion
Key sizing and proportion points may be checked against the order information before shipment.
Construction
Main seams, closures and important construction areas are checked as part of the final inspection process.
Decorative Details
Lace, beading, pearls and other visible decorative areas are checked where applicable to the design.
Final Appearance
The dress is reviewed before pressing, preparation and packaging for shipment.
Craftsmanship Is Also About Checking the Work
Detailed construction means little if the finished dress is not inspected before shipment.
That is why quality inspection forms part of the production process rather than being treated as a separate afterthought.
Our goal is to identify visible construction, sizing or finishing issues before the dress leaves production whenever possible.
Finished.
Checked.
Each stage has a different purpose, and the final inspection brings them together before shipment.
